The Interregional Bike Riding Report prepared by CalBike examines bike riding tourism as an economic opportunity. The report was funded by a Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant. Local civic leaders, business owners, tourism and economic agencies can use this report to build on current bike riding conditions. The report looks at five Showcase Bike Riding areas, four Signature Bikeway Projects, and presents an analysis of the economic benefits of encouraging bike tourism.

This report provides tools and resources to help communities, residents, businesses, and stakeholders consider an approach to economic development that is inclusive and supportive of active transportation. As one resident put it, “we have many of the pieces in place already – we just need to put them together.” It is our hope that this plan will repre- sent the first of many efforts to develop a robust, equitable, and community-supported approach to bicycle tourism.
