About Us

The Motherlode Bicycle Coalition is an alliance of people and organizations working to promote bicycling throughout California’s Motherlode region.

Our Mission and Goals

MLBC’s overarching mission is to foster healthy, prosperous, and equitable communities by making bicycling a safe and normal part of everyday life. Its core goals include:

Encouraging Stewardship: Empowering future generations through training in sustainable trail design and maintenance.

Advocating for Equitable Transportation: Championing safe and accessible transportation alternatives for both local residents and visitors.

Building Partnerships: Sustaining collaborations with local governments and land managers to develop a regional network of bikeable streets and trails.

Promoting Cycling Culture: Supporting community and economic development through cycling events and the promotion of the region as a premier bicycle destination.

Our Impact

MLBC measures its success through the growth of its membership, the amount of funding secured for infrastructure projects, and the number of local and state initiatives successfully advanced. Our work is intended to bridge economic gaps in disinvested communities by providing residents with low-cost, safe transportation alternatives to access schools, jobs, and services.

Our Structure

The Motherlode Bicycle Coalition (MLBC), founded in 2017, is a volunteer-run advocacy organization that promotes bicycling in the rural Central Sierra region. A project of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit California Mobility Fund (CMF), MLBC serves the communities of Calaveras, Alpine, Tuolumne, and Amador counties.

Fiscal sponsorship allows us to operate as a community-based organization while benefiting from nonprofit oversight and administrative support.
